Alfonso Pernia, MBA
Communications Manager

Alfonso is a veteran account manager with more than 10 years working for major corporations such as P&G, Mars, Inc., Cotton USA, and Caterpillar. Alfonso began as an intern at DMB&B Colombia, quickly moving up the ladder to join the original team that introduced Cotton USA brand into the Colombia textile market. For Mars, Inc., he was an integral part of the team that produced and implemented a soccer contest for high schools throughout Colombia that promoted fair play and respect among peers, culminating in sending two students to the World Cup. Prior to HMA, Alfonso worked with Y&R Miami, the Sun-Sentinel, and then moved to the sports industry where he was the tickets and concessions manager for the professional soccer club in Miami.

Most recently, Alfonso was project manager for Research Program in the Epidemiology and Prevention of Drug Abuse and AIDS (PEPDAA), a program funded through the National Institutes of Health at Howard University’s School of Medicine. He led the creation and dissemination of all communication tools for internal and external use, and the successful recruitment of community leaders and community-based organizations for HIV/AIDS studies.

At HMA, Alfonso is a member of the media relations and community engagement team. He brings a broad range of outreach, marketing, and media experience in education, sports, health, media, and consumer goods.

Alfonso holds a master’s degree in international business and a bachelor’s degree in marketing. Soccer and tennis are his sports of choice. In his spare time, his top priority is traveling and visiting his family in Colombia. He is fluent in Spanish and English.
