Charles brings a wealth of communications experience to HMA Associates having provided marketing, media relations, public affairs and advertising/branding expertise for over 14 years to government, corporate and non-profit clients.

He currently serves as project director for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) digital media outreach campaign and previously served as project manager for DC Department of Health’s efforts to lower the high rates of infant mortality in the District of Columbia through a public education and awareness campaign.

In a former role, Charles worked with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) supporting the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) – including working on the award-winning Know Stroke. Know the Signs. Act in Time. campaign. He also worked with the National Institute for Nursing Research (NINR) to plan multi-year communications efforts for the Institute’s nursing science and research initiatives.

Charles is a native Spanish speaker, hailing from South America. His fluency combined with cultural knowledge and understanding, serve as a key resource in engaging and reaching out to the growing U.S. Hispanic population. Charles is an experienced media relations specialist, having worked with prominent journalists to secure media placements in outlets such as NBC Nightly News, Time Magazine, New York Times, U.S. News and World Report, Univision and Telemundo.

Other former clients include: the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Duke University, the College Board, General Electric, the Altria Group, Keep America Beautiful, the Consumer Electronics Association and the Committee to Protect Mesothelioma Victims.

Charles holds a Bachelor’s degree in Communication from George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia and is an avid soccer player and fan.
